Indoor radon monitoring in various ventilation degree in some schools of Duhok City, Iraq

Radon is a radioactive noble gas, recognized as carcinogenic agent, being affected by degree of ventilation. The aim this preliminary study was to determine the concentration indoor radon gas in schools, estimate main factors affecting their levels and analyze effective dose received students Duhok schools. Therefore, concentrations were measured 28 classrooms, from 13 schools located city, using both RAD7 Corentium monitor, January 15-30, 2021. In all four different scenarios closed, natural mechanical ventilation then, reduction rate between each case calculated. addition that, exposure annual radon, for ventilation, evaluated. Furthermore, effects building floors studied. Results showed that maximum concentration, 121 Bqm-3, recorded closed while minimum, 15 relatively large 81%. Also, results demonstrate at first floor, under study, considerably greater than those second third floor (p < 0.05). studied 4 cases found less worldwide average radiation 3-10 mSv. So, it not required take any action minimize level study.
